Program Synopsis:

Many companies across various industries are increasingly incorporating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria into their business practices. They often expect their suppliers and partners to adhere to similar criteria and may conduct audits or assessments to ensure compliance with those criteria. Examples of companies that prioritize this initiative are Microsoft, Starbucks, JPMorgan Chase, Nike, Patagonia, Google, Apple etc.

One of the pathways to achieve social accountability compliance is through SA8000 certification which encompasses similar principles as CSR and ESG. The SA8000 standard is based on the principles of international human rights norms, including the International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The SA8000 Standard is the world’s leading Social Accountability Certification Program. The SA8000 Standard (ver. Jun 2014) and certification system provide a framework for organizations of all types, in any industry, and in any country to conduct business in a way that is fair and decent for workers. It helps organizations manage their social performance programs and demonstrate commitment to human rights and worker well-being. The SA8000 standard was developed by Social Accountability International (SAI), an affiliate of the Council on Economic Priorities Accreditation Agency (USA).

This 1.5-hour forum aims to provide an overview on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), SA8000 Standard’s requirements and certification benefits.
